In partnership with Prakriti Resources Centre (PRC), the Women Empowerment Centre (WEC) launched the project Civil Society Engagement for Gender-Just Climate Solutions and Action in Nepal to strengthen gender-responsive climate
action. In its first year (2024), WEC organized a high-level panel discussion on “Climate Change, Its Effects on Women
and Gender-Just Solutions” on December 16, bringing together elected officials, municipal leaders, and civil society actors
to share insights on local climate governance. WEC also participated in a two-day workshop on “Unlocking Climate Finance: Navigating the Green Climate Fund (GCF)” organized by PRC, which deepened participants’ understanding of GCF mechanisms, gender policies, and civil society’s role in accountability and project monitoring. Continuing the momentum in 2025 in 2 year of project, WEC hosted a series of stakeholder meetings in March to co-develop inclusive climate strategies with local leaders, followed by an online review session in April. On May 16, an orientation on Climate Change
and Leadership empowered over 50 participants, and WEC later engaged in a national CSO Dialogue on the Green Climate
Fund in Kathmandu. In June, two impactful community awareness programs were conducted in Chandragiri and Kirtipur municipalities, focusing on how climate change disproportionately affects women and emphasizing grassroots solutions. These efforts collectively fostered stronger local leadership, cross-sector collaboration, and a deeper commitment to gender-just climate action.
